Ruth trained with the Inner Yoga Trust, completing their Teacher’s Awareness Programme in 2004, and has been teaching for ten years. During that time she has taught a wide spectrum of clients, from 14 to 70+ years of age, teaching at sports/leisure clubs including Charterhouse Club and Wotton House, private classes at the Holistic Centre and other venues in the community, in schools to 14 – 17 year olds, and individual one to one sessions. Ruth very much enjoys the fact that yoga is indeed for everyone.
Ruth’s own journey through yoga has been, and continues to be, one of inner transformation. It is the aspect of exploration and discovery, developing the awareness from within, which Ruth really enjoys and hopes to bring out in her students. Ruth continues to develop herself and her teaching through courses and workshops, and importantly through her own practice.
Ruth is accredited with the British Wheel of Yoga. She completed a Yoga for Pregnancy Teaching Module, developed by the Inner Yoga Trust and accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga, in 2007.
What does a class involve?
Each class is 90 minutes. The class is mainly posture based. Specific breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation are brought in as appropriate. The class ends with 15 minutes of relaxation followed by a short time sitting (meditation). The class size is up to a maximum of nine, ensuring attention to your individual needs.
On attending your first session you will be asked to fill out a brief Health Questionnaire. The class is done in bare feet, you need to wear loose clothing, and bring either a blanket or warm clothes to lie for relaxation. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one. Good quality basic mats are also available for purchase.
One to one sessions and sessions for small private groups are also available. One to one sessions are 1 1/4 hours for the first session, to allow time to fill out a brief Health Questionnaire, and find out what you would like from the session(s), and a short feedback time at the end of the session. Subsequent sessions are 1 hour. Private group sessions can be from 1 hour (1 1/4 hours for the first session) up to 1 1/2 hours as required.
