I first came to Pilates some years ago and was instantly hooked on it’s ability to make you feel stronger, more mobile and more in control of your body. However, it was not until a back injury several years ago that I really discovered it’s power to heal the body and focus the mind through gentle movement. It helped me to recover and manage my injury, including through my pregnancy with my daughter several years ago.
After having my daughter, I decided to train with Body Control Pilates to become a Level Three Qualified teacher. I am also qualified to design Pilates programmes for pregnancy and the post-natal period.
Pilates is a gentle form of exercise for people of all ages and fitness levels, improving core stability, posture and alignment of the spine. It can produce great results for people with back pain and produces long, lean muscles by improving overall muscle tone and mobility.
I teach a pregnancy and a post-natal class at The Holistic Centre. The pregnancy classes are open to women in the second and third trimester, and focus on postural strengthening and the pelvic floor to support women’s changing bodies during pregnancy. Post-natal classes are designed to help women gently regain mobility after birth and prepare them for the demands of motherhood (all that bending, kneeling and carrying).
The Pilates method is precise and hands on, so classes are kept small (a max of 6-8 for pregnancy and post natal) to ensure I can give full attention to the comfort and safety of clients.
