Counsellor & PsychoTherapist (MBACP regd)
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. As an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, community and inter-generational mediator, mother of two and, for many years, a practising solicitor, I bring a broad range of skills and life experience to my counselling practice. I have gained extensive experience working for 6 years in a large sixth form college, counselling 16-18 year old students and members of staff and also teaching adult students counselling skills and theory.
Professional Practice – I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (No. 076599) and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice, this means that the service I provide is confidential and I engage in regular supervision.
My Approach – My view of therapy is that it is very much a collaborative process between counsellor and client. Research consistently demonstrates that it is the quality of this relationship (rather than the particular model used by the counsellor) which has the greatest influence on the outcome. I place great emphasis on building a trusting and supportive working relationship with each client, enabling them to talk openly about their issues in a safe environment, free from judgement or expectation.
You may have supportive family and friends, but it can be difficult to discuss personal or long term issues with those you are close to. Counselling offers Couples and individual, confidential, impartial and non-judgemental setting, independent of other influences in your life. It offers you the scope to explore your difficulties and feelings with professional support.
I am trained in an integrative model of therapy, drawing on psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural approaches as appropriate. My work with each client is tailored according to what they bring to the sessions and how they wish to approach matters – everyone is unique.
knew he could trust her. That was the start of his path to understanding why he was struggling with life. Hilary encouraged him to gently explore his pain and addictions, and gave him confidence to begin to believe in his strengths, giving him the tools to move forward in life without the fear he had been carrying for so many years. Hilary gave him
a calm space each week to enable him to grow with the techniques and tools she so carefully provided. Hilary has not only turned my son’s life around but has allowed us as a
family to enjoy the calm that was once a storm.”
“From the moment Hilary opened the front door I knew I had made the right choice of counsellor. I felt in a safe place where Hilary just let me talk freely with no pressure and in total confidence. Hilary got the measure of me and my history very quickly. Her manner and approach during that initial session were both extremely professional and caring.
During each session that followed Hilary gave me strategies and coping mechanisms to try to improve my life. Some were simple and some more challenging, but always directly suited to my needs. There was no complicated jargon and I felt everything she suggested was within my reach. Each meeting flew by and I always left walking taller and feeling nearer to my goal of discovering the real me. I cannot recommend Hilary highly enough.”
