Steve Shorney
Therapies: Yoga
Steve Shorney (Shankara) is a seasoned hatha practitioner (old yogi), who has studied and practiced in South Africa, west London and India. He has not worked with Sting or Madonna.
Steve believes that yoga is for everyone, and that anyone can benefit from a little practice. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Regular practice enlivens the body and mind, and lifts the spirit. There is no competition, and no finish line. Just a complete sense of well-being.
Steve’s classes at the Holistic Centre are hatha based, with a strong Sivananda influence. The focus in his teaching is the development of core body strength and flexibility through physical postures and sequences. Breathing exercises and relaxation play an essential part too, and make up about one third of a typical 90-minute session.
Classes for kids are also hatha based, but are less formal.
In easyoga sessions kids aged 4-8 spend 30-40 minutes having fun with animal-based postures. Yoga bends and stretches make them supple and improve their motor skills.
The Yoga’d Up group (8-14) work with slightly more advanced postures in a narrative format, and learn more about breath control and relaxation. I mproved concentration and balanced physical development are among the benefits.
