Therapies: Cranial Osteopathy, Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Nutri-Energetics Systems

My interest in naturopathic medicine began as a teenager. I had bad acne and hormonal problems. I knew instinctively that the two were connected, although my G.P didn't seem to agree. Dissatisfied, I began reading about vitamins and minerals and started experimenting on myself by changing my diet, taking certain remedies and doing cleanses.

I studied Business and Marketing for my first degree although spent these years continuing to experiment on myself with detoxing, diets and other remedies. When I qualified I started working as a Marketing Manager for an Aromatherapy company where I learned the properties of essential oils and also qualified in Reflexology. I started to use the oils for my hormonal problems and had a great deal of success. At this point I realised I was really a lot more interested in natural medicine than in marketing and wanted to be a doctor of natural medicine, but this didn’t exist (and still doesn’t). Studying Naturopathy combined with Osteopathy was as close to it as I could find.

I qualified with a first class degree in Osteopathy and Naturopathy in 1996. This was a four year full-time course and involved studying the same basic medical sciences as doctors including anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology. In addition I studied nutrition, clinical dietetics, detoxification techniques and hydrotherapy (the therapeutic effects of water). Since then I have also qualified as a Medical Herbalist and over the last ten years in practice I have studied many areas either formally or informally this includes homeopathy, the influence of the mind and emotions on our health, electro-magnetic therapeutic tools, the many manifestations of stress, healing, cranial osteopathy and a long list of other things. For a few years I served as was President of the Naturopathic Governing body known as the General Council and Register of Naturopaths (GCRN) and was chairperson of its Education Standing Committee.

I believe we can all make a difference to our own health if we choose to. We may need some help and the expert guidance of someone in this process, my job is to be that guide.
